Das full-length Debüt "Agony's Bespoke", der US-Melo Black/Deather BLIGHTED EYE, bietet atmosphärisch-progressiven und immersiven blackened Death Metal, der stark vom australischen Film "Nightingale" aus dem Jahr 2018 inspiriert wurde. BLIGHTED EYE 1.0 muss daher klar als Konzeptalbum gewertet werden, was den relativ gleichförmigen Flow erklären würde, der das komplette Album wie ein roter Faden durchzieht. Das 2019 gegründete Quartett aus Seattle, Washington legt eine starke Gewichtung auf Kurzweil, Ernsthaftigkeit, sowie Authentizität und setzt seine vielschichtigen Timbres und Gesangsstile zielgenau ein. Die doomige Grundstimmung, die sludgigen Gesangsperformances, die episch-sinnlichen Bridges und die melodiösen Gitarrenpassagen, konterkarieren immer wieder mit lauten, ungestümen und voluminösen Zwischenspielen, begleitet von John Devos derben Blastbeat-Gewittern. BLIGHTED EYE lassen den musikalischen Himmel nach den wuchtigeren Sequenzen, aber stetig wieder aufklaren.
Während die Jungs schon mal mit Vocaldoubling arbeiten, geht Kyle Chapmans oftmals langgezogener, heller bis häretisch-gutturaler Gesang häufig in barbarisch dunkles Todesgegrunze über. Zeitweise, wenn auch selten, kommt sogar dem Classic-Rock nahestehender Klargesang zum Tragen oder es wird schon mal die ketzerische Black Metal Kotztüte ausgepackt. Die feinen, melodischen Parts und die bärenstarken, teils regelrecht sphärischen Gitarrensoli von Kyle Chapman, sowie Christopher Jones erfahren tatkräftige Unterstützung von Ben Gassmans präsentem und pushendem Bassspiel. Dabei wechseln BLIGHTED EYE, ohne die technische Seite künstlich oder omnipräsent in den Vordergrund rücken zu wollen, geschickt von intensiv herausgearbeiteten, schleppenden Passagen bis hin zu wuchtigen Doublebass-Attacken.
"Agony's Bespoke" ist ein komplexes Werk mit hoher musikalischer Dichte geworden, dessen neun Tracks (wenn man das Interludium "Nightingale" mitzählt) über weite Passagen zugänglich gehalten wurden. Das Progressive dient hierbei zumeist der atmosphärischen Untermalung des durchgehend düster und dystopisch gehaltenen Spannungsbogens. Musikalisch erinnert mich das erste Vollwerk der Amis an die Frühwerke von OPETH. Produziert, abgemischt und gemastert wurde das 61:04 Minuten walzende "Agony's Bespoke" von Alex Sedin im Ghostalgy Prods Studio. Die Band sagt über "Agony's Bespoke": „Das Album beleuchtet die transformative Kraft von Gewalt und die ultimative Sinnlosigkeit von Rache und versucht, die dauerhaften emotionalen und psychologischen Auswirkungen von Traumata zu erforschen.“

The full-length debut "Agony's Bespoke", from the US melo Black/Deather BLIGHTED EYE, offers atmospheric-progressive and immersive blackened death metal, which was heavily inspired by the Australian film "Nightingale" from 2018. BLIGHTED EYE 1.0 must therefore clearly be seen as a concept album, which would explain the relatively uniform flow that runs through the entire album like a common thread. The quartet from Seattle, Washington, founded in 2019, places a strong emphasis on entertaining, seriousness and authenticity and uses its complex timbres and singing styles precisely. The doomy basic mood, the sludgy vocal performances, the epic-sensual bridges and the melodic guitar passages are always counteracted by loud, boisterous and voluminous interludes, accompanied by John Devo's rough blastbeat thunderstorms. BLIGHTED EYE let the musical sky clear up again after the more powerful sequences.
While the guys sometimes work with vocal doubling, Kyle Chapman's often drawn-out, bright to heretically guttural singing often turns into barbarically dark death grunts. At times, although rarely, clear vocals close to classic rock even come into play or the heretical black metal barf bag is unpacked. The fine, melodic parts and the extremely strong, sometimes downright spherical guitar solos by Kyle Chapman and Christopher Jones receive active support from Ben Gassman's present and pushing bass playing. Without wanting to artificially or omnipresently put the technical side in the foreground, BLIGHTED EYE cleverly switch from intensively worked out, slow passages to powerful double bass attacks.
"Agony's Bespoke" is a complex work with high musical density, whose nine tracks (if you count the interlude "Nightingale") were kept accessible over long passages. The progressive mostly serves to provide atmospheric background to the consistently dark and dystopian arc of tension. Musically, the Americans' first full-length work reminds me of the early works of OPETH. The 61:04 minute "Agony's Bespoke" was produced, mixed and mastered by Alex Sedin in the Ghostalgy Prods Studio. The band says of "Agony's Bespoke": "The album illuminates the transformative power of violence and the ultimate futility of revenge, and seeks to explore the lasting emotional and psychological effects of trauma."
